April 14 April – 15 April 2016, Brussels
Kate Ferguson-Patrick recently attended this course at The Future Classroom Lab (http://fcl.eun.org) in Brussels.
The Future Classroom Lab is created by European Schoolnet, its supporting 30 ministries and industry partners to help visualise how conventional classrooms and other learning spaces can be easily reorganised to support changing styles of teaching and learning.
The two day course introduced us to the competencies and skills required for the 21st century which included teamwork, inquiry learning as well as an Entrepreneurial Mindset and Entrepreneurial Skills (bit.ly/fclent3). The course discussed the importance of encouraging effort in students as well as encouraging curiosity and creativity mindsets.
During the course we were set some practical collaborative tasks and were encouraged to use effective communication (https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=v4OmXaihEp0)
A great website about entrepreneurial learning was shared and explored including a link to a Skills and Strengths Quiz: A self-assessment tool in quiz format for children to identify their own strengths and ‘lifelong learning’ skills that can be applied in real life contexts, in particular skills in taking responsibility for own learning, and understanding of others. http://www.tesguide.eu/tool-method/skills-strengths-quiz.htm. The course also focussed on building healthy relationships.
We learnt in a practical and fun way how to create a business idea using lean canvas and how to support the learning process through entrepreneurial learning that allows and encourage pupils to tackle real life challenges which require them to take initiative, be innovative, manage risk and to develop their decision making, team building and problem solving skills.
