Ruth’s teaching and research is in curriculum studies in Humanities and Social Science in the primary school areas of history, geography, values and sustainability education and their related pedagogy. Her research studies have been historically focused but include contemporary syllabus development and futures studies. Ruth is interested in developing curriculum that leads to intercultural competency in in children and in their teachers, and links effective pedagogy with curriculum knowledge and skills, including technology use in citizenship education. Ruth works with schools in developing reflective pedagogy through professional development. Currently Ruth is working to enhance Global perspectives in teacher education here and in collaboration with the University of Umea and Dalarna University (Sweden). Ruth is a recipient of the national OLT citation for outstanding contribution to student learning in 2013.
